In Fremont, CA, we serve global clients in telecom and datacom industries in providing innovative optical modules and subsystems to support our customer's next generation networks. We are looking for a Senior Optical System & Integration Manager to join our team. This person will be responsible for leading a R&D team to develop innovative integrated optical solution products, such as optical cross-connect switches to satisfy the needs of the next generation telecom, datacenter networks and AI/ML supercomputing networks.

This person will work in a multi-discipline team, interact with sales and marketing, product line managers, lead electrical, mechanical, software, and optical R&D engineers and work with colleagues of different geographic sites.

What You Will Do

  • Build and lead a strong optical centric R&D team to success in the integrated optical solution product development with competitive edges in cost, performance, quality, delivery, and mass manufacturability in time and within the budget.
  • Lead architecture and algorithm design interacting with optical, hardware, software/firmware members, in design team, and carrying out detail system analysis, modelling, and simulation.
  • Lead definition of high-level testing framework of functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Systematically implement project management methodologies in project planning, scheduling, and execution with emphasis on critical path management and risk mitigation.
  • Systematically implement DFMEA, PFMEA, design of experiment, design for manufacturability with automation in the process of product development and manufacturing.
  • Systematically implement documentation system with all relevant project development documents, e.g., BOM, drawings, specification datasheets, experiments and test data, process flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, presentations, summaries, meeting minutes, etc. as well as ECN, revisioning.
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal teams of different functions, such as mechanical, hardware, software as well as QA, MFG, HR, etc. as well as teams of different sites.
  • Customer interaction including RFQ/RFP responses and pre/post sale customer support.
  • Initiate new optical design concepts, conduct technology and platform evaluation for next generation optical solution pipeline.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Masters degree in optics, physics, applied physics, or electrical engineering with optical orientations
  • At least 3 years hands on experience in the field of optical product R&D/ development
  • Experience in optical physics, free space and/or micro-optics product/system development, including optical design, optical engineering, photonic simulation, or relevant fields
  • Experience in optical and photonic packaging
  • Leadership experience with multi-site, multi-discipline team members
  • Experience leading projects (with one of the project management software, such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, etc.)
  • Experience with optical MEMS technology and products

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Ph.D.
  • Bilingual with Mandarin
  • Familiar with optical design using Zemax/CODE V/OSLO, or equivalent
  • Familiar with MATLAB or Python or LabVIEW scripts or equivalent
  • Familiar with opto-mechanical analysis, stress & thermal analysis .

For this role, we anticipate paying $190,000 - $240,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
