We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Transportation Planner to grow with us with a background in Transportation and Complete Streets. The Planner should have 5 or more years of similar experience. Applicants must be motivated with a desire for both personal growth and advancement as well as firm growth in transportation planning, capable of multi-tasking in a variety of projects, and work well in a collaborative team atmosphere.
Responsibilities of Transportation Planner:

  • Participate in transportation planning, public outreach, and concept development of Transportation networks
  • Collect a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, origin, and destinations, etc.
  • Perform data analysis and alternative development
  • Develop presentation materials such as PowerPoints and presenting project status, alternative development, stakeholder presentations, etc.
  • Develop strategies to improve safety and mobility for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians for both high-level planning studies and for site-specific conceptual designs
  • Typical projects include high-level transportation planning reports (e.g., pedestrian and bicycle plans, vision zero plans, and sustainable mobility plans) as well as local government or Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) corridor or intersection studies
  • Perform evaluations, write sections of reports/memos, assist in the development of materials for the public and governmental agencies, and provide assistance as directed by senior staff
  • Write grants
  • Interact with clients

Requirements of Transportation Planner:
Education: B.S. or B.A. Degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Software: must have capabilities in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD required
Experience: 5 or more years of similar experience on municipal work in Massachusetts preferred
Registrations: AICP Certification or motivated to obtain an AICP Certification in the future
Work Ethic: must be motivated with a desire for both personal growth and firm growth, and capable of multi-tasking on a variety of projects
Interpersonal Skills: excellent written and oral communication skills (required), demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative team environment, and ambition to grow and gain more responsibility
